About Us

Mission

Kink Between the Lines strives to provide a platform that intentionally holds space for the centering of marginalized perspectives in relation to the kink and BDSM community. It is our mission to shine a light on topics and perspectives that are usually ignored and to hold space for voices that are often decentered within the lifestyle.

Guiding Organizational Values

Transparency

We strive to be transparent as organization which means we provide clear, meaningful, and proactive communication about how we function as an organization whenever possible.

Accessibility

Access is a core tenant of our organization and we weave accessibility into every aspect of our conference so that people of every ability can participate in meaningful ways.

Equity

More than just equality, KBtL strives for equity and works to offset power imbalances in an active, just, and compassionate way.

Accountability

We emphasize not just safety and consent but also responsibility and accountability when it comes to our conference, our education, and each other.

Growth

We value growth as an organization and we aim to foster introspection, reflection, insight, inspiration, and transformation in our presenters, volunteers, and attendees.

About the Conference

KBtL is an always-virtual conference that happens every 9-15 months. The conference is three days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We shift the dates of our conference from year to year on purpose; there is no set month or time of year that KBtL happens. We do this to ensure that everyone has a equal chance at attending. Hosting a conference every year on a specific week or month means that some people may never be able to attend because of conflicts with their work, culture, religion, or other events.

KBtL’s primary platform is Discord. Our event has it’s own Discord server, which is open year-round. During the event, the server is our homebase for all things KBtL and is where we get to know each other, host discussions, post resources, and post the links for classes and socials. Classes are held on Zoom. In 2023 we added Gather as a social platform and will be continuing to experiment with using it as such in future years. Gather allows people to wander around an space with an avatar, engage with games, form sporadic chatting groups, and attend structured social meetups. It’s a more organic way to engage with others outside the standard video meeting setup of Zoom.
