Traditional kink education rightly focuses on consent, negotiation and aftercare, but these frameworks can unintentionally assume that everyone enters a space from the same social and cultural starting point. This workshop explores how race, marginalisation and lived experience shape our relationship to power, safety and belonging within BDSM and kink. Drawing on trauma-informed practice and my experience as a mixed-race Black British intimacy coach, participants will reflect on topics including fetishisation, implicit bias, nervous system safety and authentic choice. Through guided discussion and reflection, we will explore how kink communities can move beyond inclusion towards creating environments where people feel genuinely seen, understood and safe. The session is educational rather than accusatory and is intended to foster thoughtful dialogue, self-reflection and community learning. Participants should expect discussions relating to race, marginalisation, fetishisation and consent.
